Veneers and Laminates

Gita Rani

Esthetics has become of paramount importance as far as restorative dentistry is concerned. Accordingly, several treatment options have been proposed to restore the aesthetic appearance of the anterior dentition. For many years, the most predictable and durable aesthetic correction of anterior teeth has been achieved by the preparation of full crowns. However, this approach is undoubtedly most invasive with substantial removal of large amount of tooth substance and possible adverse effects on adjacent pulp and periodontal tissues. Veneers have become the esthetic alternatives to ceramic crowns and the traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal. Smiles can be transformed painlessly, conservatively and quickly with dramatic, long-lasting results with the successful use of the Veneers. This presentation gives an overview of the preparation designs, type of materials, uses, indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages in detail, so as to help the clinician to decide the best treatment plan for veneers. The patient acheives positively improved appearance, is satisfied psychologically, that acts positively on their mental health and self-esteem. Porcelain veneers shows excellent aesthetic results and predictable longevity of the treatment, while composite veneers can be considered as a good conservative option, but with less durability.
